Amplify Utah empowers student and emerging journalists by providing resources, opportunities and mentorship needed to develop their skills and make a meaningful impact. In collaboration with local media, we work to ensure that every voice is heard and valued, bridging gaps and building understanding across all communities in Utah.

Marcie Young Cancio
Founder and Executive Director
A veteran newspaper reporter, magazine editor and digital executive producer and television news managing editor, Marcie founded Amplify Utah in 2020 to help bolster representative storytelling in local media and amplify voices from across the greater Salt Lake community and state.
Marcie joined the University of Utah's communication faculty in 2023 after five years at Salt Lake Community College as assistant professor of journalism and digital media. Raised in Salt Lake City, Marcie has worked for KUTV 2News and Salt Lake magazine and returned to her hometown bringing lessons learned from gigs with ABC7 News in San Francisco, Conde Nast in New York and The Charlotte Observer in North Carolina. She is a graduate of Utah State University and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
