In Their Words is a community-driven storytelling initiative that focuses on amplifying voices of Utahns facing housing insecurity and unveiling the often overlooked aspects of the unsheltered community. Guided by an ethical storytelling framework, individuals shared their experiences in their own words, shaping both their narratives and portraits. This project seeks to share, destigmatize, and humanize, offering a deeper understanding and connection. 

Featuring stories, photographs and voices of 17 neighbors experiencing homelessness, the project highlights real connections and shared humanity.

In Their Words has concluded its summer 2025 run at the Salt Lake City Public Library. The exhibit is now available—either in full or as an abridged version—for display by local organizations and other community spaces at no cost.
