U.S. Democracy Day

Fall 2024

In September 2024, Amplify Utah's Utah College Media Collaborative participated in the national U.S. Democracy Day collaboration, mobilizing students to produce 20 works of pro-democracy journalism. Student reporters from four Utah schools — Salt Lake Community College, the University of Utah, Utah State University and Utah Tech University — contributed to this initiative. Their work strengthened local civic reporting while connecting Utah communities with critical information about democratic processes and participation. Nationally, 241 news organizations from all 50 states produced over 268 pieces of journalism, representing a 98.5% increase in pro-democracy content from the previous year.
